16 DAYS OF ACTIVISM: UNIVERSITY OF NOVI SAD AGAINST VIOLENCE

In the period from November 25 to December 10, 2023, the University of Novi Sad held a series of activities and thus marked the global global campaign “16 days of activism against gender.based violence”. The experts held a forum, a conversation with students and a lecture on the topics of digital violence, gender-based violence and violence against children.

On November 16 and 17, 2023, a two-day workshop entitled “Implicit Gender Prejudices” was organized at the Faculty of Economics in Subotica. The workshop, which was intended for teaching and administrative staff of the Faculty of Economics, was held by Assoc. Bojan Bodrož, PhD, from the Department of Psychology, Faculty of Philosophy, UNS. The workshop was designed with the aim of making the participants familiar with hidden and often unconscious gender biases, which represent mechanisms that reinforce the existing imbalance of power and inequality between men and women. The initial theoretical basis is the theory of dual processes, which enables understanding of the fact that people often unconsciously reproduce patterns of gender inequality through a series of behaviors and thoughts.

On the 23rd-24th. November 2023, Coordinator of the UNIGEM project at UNS, prof.  Gordana Lalić-Krstin, PhD, participated in the XIII annual conference of the Victimology Society of Serbia entitled “Support to victims and prevention of victimization: Challenges and perspectives”. Prof. Lalić-Krstin participated in the thematic session “International panel on universities and sexual and gender-based violence: The answer is not enough!” where she presented the UNIGEM project, its results and perspectives.

There was also a conversation with male and female students on the topic “Sexual violence: how to recognize it and what to do if it happens to you”. The lecture was given by Biljana Stepanov from the Center for Victims of Sexual Violence in front of a packed ceremonial hall of the Faculty of Philosophy, and then she answered numerous questions and concerns of the participants.

On December 4th, a forum on the topic “Children as invisible victims of gender-based violence” was held in the cinema hall of the Faculty of Philosophy. Nada Padejski Šekerović, PhD, manager of the Safe Women’s House in Novi Sad, and Daliborka Vojvodić Tomović, manager of the group for combating juvenile delinquency and violence in the family of the Novi Sad police department, spoke at the panel, and the moderator was journalist Tamara Srijemac.

Then, on December 5, a lecture was held on the topic “Involvement in digital violence from the perspective of women” in the Rector’s building of the University of Novi Sad. The lecture was held by prof. Bojana Dinić, PhD, from the Department of Psychology of the Faculty of Philosophy, who researches the phenomenon of violence in the digital environment and is the author of several works in this field.

On December 7, 2023, the UNIGEM project was presented at the forum “Violence in partner relationships among young people” organized by the Safe Women’s House, Center for Social Work Novi Sad.
