16 DAYS OF ACTIVISM: UNIVERSITY OF BIHAĆ AGAINST VIOLENCE

In the period from November 25, to December 10, 2023. the University of Bihać realized a series of activities and thus marked the global campaign “16 days of activism against gender-based violence”. The name of the project and the central event was “Femicide in the law, murderers in prison”. As the focus is always on male and female students, this time the student group provided its contribution by surveying the citizens of the city of Bihać. See how it looked HERE.

As part of the campaign, the University of Bihać promoted three publications in the publishing of the TPO Foundation. Organized by the Center for Gender Equality of the University of Bihać, in the premises of the Faculty of Law, the promotion of the collection “Despite fear and silence: Universities against gender-based violence” edited by prof. Zilka Spahić Šiljak, prof. Jasna Kovačević and Prof. Jasmina Husanović. The promoters of the Collection were prof. Ph.D. Vildana Pečenković and prof. Ph.D. Albin Muslić, and the moderator prof. Ph.D. Jasmina Bešlagić.

The second publication, also organized by the Center for Gender Equality of the University of Bihać, at the Faculty of Education, was promoted by prof. Vildana Pečenković, PhD, dean of the Faculty of Education, University of Bihać and prof. Albin Muslić, Ph.D., professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Bihać, while the promotion was moderated by prof. Ph.D. Jasmina Bešlagić. The publication is entitled “Feminism and Religion in the 21st Century: Technology, Dialogue, and Expanding Boundaries.” This collection discusses the transformative effects of communication technologies, the Internet, blogs, and social media within religious discourses, with the authors exploring the digital world and online spaces as places that are more accessible to women, opening opportunities for greater engagement and access to information.

In the premises of the Faculty of Economics, the third publication “Women and work: feminism, work and social reproduction”, promoted by Prof. Mirela Kljajić Dervić, Faculty of Economics, University of Bihać, and Prof. Albin Muslić, PhD, Faculty of Law of the University of Bihać, while the promotion was moderated by Prof. Jasmina Bešlagić, Ph.D. The interest of the academic staff, students, as well as the wider reading public in this event was particularly pronounced due to the topicality of the topic covered by the publication. , which is the position of women on the labor market, the issue of harmonizing private and professional life, as well as other issues that women face in the world of work and labor relations. The central event of the campaign “16 days of activism” at the University of Bihać was realized with the active participation of students of the University of Bihać, students of the  Gymnasium “Bihać”, as well as relevant representatives of social life in order to problematize the recently topic, femicide. The slogan of the Campaign, as well as of the Central Event, is “Femicide in the law, murderers in prison”. Theoretical, practical and statistical aspects of the issue of femicide were presented, and then a discussion was opened between representatives of the academic community, the judiciary, investigative bodies, agencies, institutions, institutions, including governmental and non-governmental sectors, regarding the need to include femicide in criminal legislation in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Herzegovina. The central event was moderated by the coordinator of the Center for Gender Equality of the University of Bihać, prof. Ph.D. Jasmina Bešlagić, and with a discussion by prof. Ph.D. Nikola Findrik.
