The marking of the campaign “16 days of activism for gender equality” at the International University of Travnik (IUT) included several activities – book promotion, educational workshops, and similar, with the aim of showing responsibility towards the problems caused by gender-based violence, and the need to ensure respect for human rights. The activities were organized as part of the UNIGEM project, which the TPO Foundation implements in cooperation with 19 regional institutional partners, including IUT, with the financial support of the United Kingdom Government, and with the aim of introducing gender perspectives and policies into the regional academic community.

Promotion of the book “Violence against pregnant women in Bosnia and Herzegovina – family, health system and work relations”, authored by Ph.D. sc. Zlatan Hrnčić and the same-titled workshop on violence against pregnant women, which was also moderated by Ph.D. sc. Zlatan Hrničić, was held on November 30th, 2022. This important scientific work, created on the basis of comprehensive research, introduced the participants to the prevalence, characteristics, and consequences of discrimination and violence against pregnant women in our country. The promotion of the book and the workshop were attended by students, academic staff of the university, and the representative of the Travnik Municipal Court, assistant. Ph.D. sc. Jasmina Tahirović, representatives of the Cantonal Court in Novi Travnik, Azra Lendo and Amila Fazlibegović and representative of the Centre for Social Work Novi Travnik, Mahir Krehić.

The workshop “Gender (in) equality – prejudices and stereotypes”, was organized with students in cooperation with the Centre for Women’s Rights from Zenica, on December 2nd, 2022. The education had an interactive character, and contributed to the acquisition of new knowledge, especially regarding the social manifestation of differences between the concepts of gender and sex, and learning about new practices in providing support and assistance for victims of violence. The educators of the Centre for Women’s Rights were able to transfer knowledge to all participants with their skills, and include them in the discussion.

The campaign continued on December 8th, 2022, with the screening of a set of six videos on unconscious bias prepared by the University of Sarajevo School of Science and Technology (SSST), one of the partner universities within the UNIGEM project, and an accompanying workshop moderated by Selma Otuzbir-Mecan, coordinator of the UNIGEM project at IUT.

Activities within the Campaign ended on December 12th, 2022, when the workshop “Understanding masculinity: how to develop gender equality” was held and moderated by the well-known BiH journalist and editor Nikola Vučić, based on his scientific research on this issue.
