16 Days of Activism: Campaign marked at Sarajevo School of Science and Technology (SSST)

In support of the global campaign “16 Days of Activism for Gender Equality” of the UNIGEM project, which the TPO Foundation implements in cooperation with 19 universities from BiH and the region, the University of Sarajevo School of Science and Technology (SSST) organized a movement about all relevant issues concerning gender equality throughout the Campus, which brought together professors, students, and activists, with the aim of calling for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls in all its forms and diversity. The campaign also included pointing out the importance of implementing gender-conscious policies at the University by promoting the Action Plan for Gender Equality as the first step in changing the system.

The intensive and interesting program that continued until the end of the Campaign began on November 29, 2022, with the student action “Badges and reels”, during which students and volunteers on November 29, 2022, distributed badges and introduced the activities of the Campaign to over 50 of their colleagues and professors.

Three lectures were held that brought together numerous students, teaching, and administrative staff of SSST, namely “History of GAPs and motivation for their establishment at institutions of higher education”, held by professor Jasminka Hasić Telalović Ph.D., “Students’ experiences through the STUDIGEM project” held by Mirza Rastoder, founder and director of HUB Homework, and the lecture “Women’s Voices in Bosnia and Herzegovina Cinematography”, which was held by Emina Ganić, director of the Sarajevo Film Academy at SSST.

There was also a screening of a video about unconscious bias, which was organized and conducted by Jasmina Katica and Jasmina Bajramović, SSST employees, for SSST students.

During the Campaign, on December 5, 2022, the scientific publication The Challenges of mainstreaming gender equality in the university communities: Fighting gender-based violence” was promoted at this institution, edited by professor Zilka Spahić Šiljak Ph.D., professor Jasna Kovačević Ph.D.,  and professor Jasmina Husanović Ph.D., which is the result of extensive and first regional research on gender equality in academic communities, conducted as part of the UNIGEM project. The speakers at the promotion were professor Jasminka Hasić-Telalović Ph.D., coordinator of the UNIGEM project, then Emina Ganić, and editors professors Jasna Kovačević Ph.D., and Zilka Spahić Šiljak Ph.D. The promotion was moderated by journalist Slađan Tomić.
